NEW YORK – The Department of Justice announced Tuesday that it had charged 11 people in connection with the hacking of nine major U.S. retailers and the theft and sale of more than 40 million credit and debit card numbers.

Under the indictments, three Miami, Florida, men — Albert "Segvec" Gonzalez, Christopher Scott and Damon Patrick Toey — are accused of hacking into the wireless computer networks of retailers including TJX Companies, whose stores include Marshall’s and T.J. Maxx, BJ’s Wholesale Club, OfficeMax, Barnes and Noble and Sports Authority, among others.

The three men installed "sniffer" programs designed to capture credit card numbers, passwords and account information as they moved through the retailers’ card processing networks, authorities said.

Consider Encrypting Traffic from within the PCI Zone as I wrote in this blog post as a prevent defense.

This is why it really pisses me off that so many places only except credit or debit cards. I only deal in cash, and it makes it very hard sometimes. But I trust no one. you can’t these days.

this crime is nothing committed by the White House and the GOP. Look this crime isn’t totaling 12 Trillion dollars. The AG has to do what he can to keep the lid on the crimes done by the White House in hopes that McCain can cover it up when he’s President.

Thanks for making this a political discussion Jackie. Please recall that a Democrat (LBJ) engineered the Gulf of Tonkin incident to get us into Vietnam, as well as colluded with the Israelis to sink our own ship ( U.S.S. Liberty ) as a pretext to invade Egypt. The GOP aren’t the only war criminals out there.
